Few careers match the opportunity real estate offers in providing a service that profoundly touches people’s lives. By choosing a career that provides exceptional personal gratification, freedom to set your own schedule, professional and monetary rewards, you will be choosing a career filled with excitement and independence. Real estate is both a challenging and rewarding career and offers the freedom that few other careers can offer. Individuals from diverse educational as well as occupational backgrounds are making the decision to begin a successful real estate career.

Personality traits are as important as an academic background for someone considering a career in real estate. A pleasant personality, neat appearance, the ability to exercise good judgment, trustworthiness, honesty, and having enthusiasm for the job are all traits for a successful career as well as possessing the ability to attract prospective customers in a highly competitive field. Brokers look for individuals who are self-starters, passionate, organized, disciplined, enthusiastic, flexible, detail oriented, willing to gain knowledge of the local areas and neighborhoods.

The ideal candidate will persuasively market themselves and their buyers and sellers' homes through networking, technology, and referral gathering.

Individuals must be at least 18 years old, have a Pennsylvania Real Estate license and a reliable vehicle.

High Personal Initiative: Your success depends on your ability to create programs and implement them on your own, with relatively little supervision.
Tenacity: Only those who “stick with it” win. Plan on dedicating one year to establishing your business.
Mental Toughness: A positive attitude is essential. Others who give up easily will try to influence the tenacious, mentally tough individual to also give up. It takes courage to keep going in this long-term business.
Believe in Oneself: We each have to know, inside ourselves, that we are capable, that we have the talent and tenacity to succeed and that we can depend on ourselves.
Willing to Take Direction: Real estate is a constantly changing business. Those who win and keep building a stronger business learn new skills and apply them daily.
Enthusiastic: A joy in doing and a desire to accomplish shows itself in an enthusiastic attitude.
Creative: In today’s marketing-oriented world, an agent must be creative to design programs in which he or she stands out as valuable and different.
Educated and Communicative: Writing skills are essential today. Effective verbal communication is also paramount to success.
Team Player: The preservation of the office spirit and cooperation is very important. We are all more successful together!
Financially Solvent: The ability to bridge the gap as you start requires that you have a three or four month financial cushion in the beginning, so you may concentrate more effectively on your career.
The complete hiring process could take anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months dependent on the status of your pre-licensing (schooling) and examination. The Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission requires a background check (no more than 90 days old at the time of submission with a completed application for licensure). Reliant upon the volume of background check requests, for all forms of employment at the time of your submission, this could take 30 to 45 days to obtain.
